The Mission GREMO brings results to the Slovenian automotive industry

In 2022, under the auspices of ACS Slovenian Automotive Cluster, the Slovenian automotive industry presented a joint initiative for digital and green transformation called Mission GREMO. After three years of implementing joint projects, company representatives briefed the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Robert Golob, and representatives of the relevant ministries on the results of the joint projects to date and discussed the next steps in implementing the objectives of Mission GREMO by 2030.

The Mission GREMO is an effective tool for tackling the challenges facing the automotive industry.

In 2021, the Slovenian automotive industry decided to undergo a comprehensive green and digital transformation. It developed the GREMO (GREen MObility) Mission, a model example of cooperation between the economy, science, and the state, with the aim of comprehensively addressing the development needs of companies and research institutions. The mission was supported by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia as an important joint initiative of the economy as early as 2022, which is why it also signed a strategic partnership agreement with automotive companies and research institutions in May 2023.

The results of joint work within the Mission GREMO are visible.

After three years of intensive work in the field of research and development, companies recognise numerous advantages of cooperation. With numerous joint projects, they can already present concrete solutions that support the implementation of the ambitious goals of the GREMO Mission. In addition, they are expanding their cooperation to the field of internationalization and addressing other business challenges in the automotive industry. This has been greatly aided by the understanding of Slovenian policy that our companies in the automotive and mobility sector urgently need transformation to strengthen their competitiveness and that the joint efforts of the economy, science, and the state are key to achieving greater competitiveness of the Slovenian economy.

Numerous new solutions presented at the Innovation Conference, a critical review of the work done so far with an analysis of new opportunities for improving results, and concrete development plans of companies are a guarantee for the creation of new joint projects and initiatives which will enable companies to invest even more intensively in research and development, create highly competent ecosystems of partners in specific technological fields, and further strengthen the internationalization of companies. Based on the recognition of development trends and challenges in the business environment, companies will connect even more closely in the development of new solutions for digital and green transformation and for accelerated investment in innovative production technologies and new business models.

In any case, companies recognize the current situation in the automotive industry market as an important opportunity for even closer integration, more concrete measures to support competitive economic sectors, and thus for strengthening the role of the Slovenian automotive industry in the European and global markets.

New initiatives and even closer cooperation as the key to success.

None of this would have been possible without the excellent cooperation of our partners. They are well aware that they would never be able to achieve what they can through joint development and market presence on their own. The breakthrough solutions developed in the GREMO Mission and the experience gained by the partners in the process are invaluable. They create a strong partnership that goes beyond normal business relationships and, with the coordination of ACS Slovenian Automotive Cluster, is capable of addressing even the most demanding business challenges.

In his speech, the Prime Minister pointed out that Mission GREMO has made a remarkable leap forward in three years, not only in terms of technology but also in the culture of cooperation. He added that the greatest achievement is that companies that were once competitors are now joining forces and tackling the most difficult challenges together.
