At the GREMO business conference on artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most important inventions of the 21st century. As it is increasingly present in our lives, we dedicated this year’s GREMO Business Conference to this topic. With experts, we looked at where AI is already being successfully used, what opportunities it offers for the future, and where the challenges and pitfalls of its use lie.

“For two years now, we have been facing various challenges, from digitalization, green transformation to the development of new technologies and geopolitical changes,” emphasized Tanja Mohorič, director of SRIP ACS+, in her introduction. She added that various types of innovations play an important role in this, including artificial intelligence, which is changing the world completely, as it is present in every aspect of our lives. Nevertheless, Mohorič believes that this technology will not replace humans, it is and will only be a tool to make their work easier.

This is well known in companies that already use AI in their business. In presentations of their experiences with artificial intelligence, they agreed that AI is not just ChatGPT but much more. It is a set of tools that optimize business and production processes, reduce costs and waste, improve the quality of products and services, speed up and control work processes, and the like. Therefore, for them, the question is not whether to introduce this type of technology into the company, but how quickly and wisely to introduce it. They believe that anyone who does not use AI in their processes is losing competitiveness.

When introducing artificial intelligence into business and thus ensuring competitiveness, companies will also be able to turn to the Artificial Intelligence Factory (AIF) at the Jožef Stefan Institute. This will bring together the best experts in artificial intelligence in Slovenia and illustrate the impacts of AI in various sectors, including sustainability, health, digital society and science, and will offer companies access to a supercomputer in addition to expert knowledge. However, because they want to build AIF in cooperation with the economy, they are organizing an Open Day in November, where they will listen to the needs of companies and thereby strengthen the operation of the factory.

The interesting and informative conference was concluded by anthropologist Dr. Dan Podjed, who in his inspiring speech asked what we humans are changing into with all this rapid progress and technology, including artificial intelligence. In his opinion, we should be able to disconnect from devices and find the right balance between digital literacy and a life without screens. It is true, says Dr. Podjed, that digital devices are beneficial to everyday life and business, but we must tailor and develop technologies primarily to the needs of humans.
